Taking a Look at the ECNL International Tournament Champions

<p>In the first ever edition of the ECNL International Tournament, North Carolina FC's boys came out triumphant. Throughout the 3-day tournament, they played great soccer, with each player understanding their role perfectly. They reached the final against none other than Chelsea, where they won on penalties after an entertaining and hard-fought match. This U14 team is highly talented, and I recommend keeping an eye on them in the next couple of years. The following are players who caught my eye the most, with some other very honorable mentions.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goalkeeper</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Dillon is a very promising goalkeeper whose stature makes him an intimidating figure for the opposition. He likes to make sure his box is safe, even if the danger is low. Loose balls, with or without a heavy opposing presence, are unacceptable in the box for him. He also likes to rush off his line to cut attacks short as quickly and aggressively as possible. Though he does need to sharpen that attribute more, it's still well developed for a player his age. He's an option for build up from deep, looking comfortable with the ball at his feet. In this tournament, he got named as the best goalkeeper and it's easy to see why.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Defenders</h2>   <p>The defenders who caught my eye are all polyfunctional and talented wherever they play. Aidan Wu played as both a center back and a right back, where he put up strong performances. Jonaven Espinal Santos played as a center back and a defensive midfielder, dominating in each both defensively and in possession. </p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Orlin caught my eye playing as a left-back, where he performs splendidly. Later, he also demonstrated being a great talent as a defensive midfielder. This versatility shows how intelligent he is not just with the decisions he makes, but also tactically. I want to especially highlight his dribbling and defense. His dribbling is magnificent. He can carry the play forward out wide and then interiorize in the same dribble easily. This opens up spaces for his whole team, including himself, to move into and finish plays. His passing from these areas is also impressive, finding open players all the time. Defensively, he is a great tackler and interceptor. When he's positioned correctly, there's no getting past him. Sometimes, when he joins the attack to the very end, it takes him a while to track back. But otherwise, he's very defensively aware and dominating.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Midfielders</h2>   <p>Caelin Sroka is another player who played as a defensive midfielder who is worth taking a look at. He caught my eye with his quick reactions and interceptions in critical areas in midfield.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Colin is an immensely talented midfielder who has the qualities to play as any type of midfielder. An attribute you see when he plays either as an attacking or defensive midfielder is his passing. Specifically, his incisive passes. They slice open defenses so easily, finding an attacking teammate in brilliant positions. He's a player who is always looking to progress play and would rather play a risky forward pass than play a safe side or back pass. Defensively, he is a strong player who knows when and where to go to anticipate a pass. His interceptions allow for quick transitions from defense to attack, which he leads. Offensively, he's a wonderful dribbler. Skillful and agile, he dances past his markers brilliantly. Also, his vision is exactly what you want from a creative player.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Attackers</h2>   <p>The attack was led by very exciting talents. Both Diego Arciniegas and Elwin Joya Villatoro are special players who make the difference out wide. They progress attacks skillfully and aggressively. </p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Jordan is a talent to keep an eye out for, even after his phase as a youth player is done. His physique gives him a huge advantage over the opposition before a ball has even been kicked. He's strong, knowing when to use his body to check defenders cleanly. This could be both on and off the ball. He is highly effective in high pressing, winning the ball back frequently. On the ball, he is driven by wanting to get the ball in the back of the net. With open space, he blitzes past the defenders with his pace to get through on goal. In tighter spaces, he's brilliant technically. He can move the ball around defenders and leave them confused as he, again, goes through on goal. In the box, he's a killer. He's composed and effective, making him an extremely prolific striker.</p>
