Ohio 2029 Rankings Preview: Top Defenders to Know

The Prep Soccer state rankings for Ohio's 2029 class will be released this week. Prior to unveiling the rankings, check out a scouting report on some of the top defenders from the group.    Bogle is a winger/outside back who most recently played for Ohio Elite 2010 ECNL. She was a part of the squad that advanced to the semifinal round of the North America Cup.   Bogle has good pace and endurance for making the full-field runs for the whole game. She played in a more advanced role during the season, but earned some attention for her play at outside back during the postseason. She has excellent instincts as a defender. She is good in the aerial duel, she reads the game, and she quickly transitions into the attack.     Roos is a center back who most recently played for the Ohio Elite 2010 ECNL team. She is right footed, but can play on either side of the formation. She has been part of US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. She was the only player from the 2010 team to get that honor for the most recent event.   Roos is a leader on the field. She is a smart player who seems to always be in the right spot to make the right play. She's a tenacious defender who is doesn't shy from any challenge.   Her best strength is on the ball. She takes a bunch of free kicks for her club team because she delivers the ball with accuracy consistently. She's shown excellent vision and the ability to break the pressure with her passing.   Roos is one of the top center backs in this class in the state and region.     Uppercue is a center back who most recently played on the Internationals 09/2010 during the ECNL playoffs. She is a player who immediately stood out from game film for her physical play. She is excellent at using her body in the tackle to control the forward. She has perfect technique in shielding the ball out of bounds.   Uppercue shows excellent patience on the ball when in possession. She doesn't rush her decision, but rather can wait until the opposition gives her an opening. She is left footed, but good with either foot.   Uppercue has a lot of strengths to her game and has been one of the standouts at center back in the 2010 age group in recent years.     Ferguson is an outside back who most recently played for Internationals 09/2010 ECNL during the ECNL Playoffs. She plays left back for her club team. She's right footed. She could be a really good fit as a right or left center back in a back three. She tends to be a bit more reserved in her positional choices, but it's a tactical approach to balance her team.   Ferguson has the quality on the ball and pace to be an option and asset as an attacking outside back as well. She sends in an excellent cross when she joins the attack. She's a stellar defender first and foremost, which makes her one of the top recruits in the state.     Russell is a center back who most recently played on the Cleveland Force 2011 ECNL team during the playoffs. She plays left center back for her club team. She's been part of US Soccer Talent ID events in the past.   Russell stands out from game film for her positioning and tactical intelligence. She's excellent as a supporting player along the backline. She knows how to read the opposition and close off passing lanes. She's also very good at being the cover player when her fellow center back steps up to track a run.   She has a well rounded game that shines at the club level and makes her one of the top players in Ohio's 2029 class.
