Palmeiras U16 | Miguel Alvez & Luis Fhelipe

In my opinion, the most impressive win from Day 1 of the Messi Cup came from Palmeiras U16, who defeated FC Barcelona 2-0 while keeping a clean sheet.

The two players I'm highlighting today are obviously outside of the American soccer landscape, but I can confidently say that, barring any major injuries or off-field issues, I believe both will be playing in major professional leagues within the next few years.

1. Miguel Alvez | Palmeiras U16

Miguel is a prospect I've been following for a few years now. I first identified him at the Club América Cup, hosted at Surf Sports Park in San Diego back in 2024.

He was playing U14 at the time, and I remember him scoring an incredible bicycle kick that I'll never forget.

Funny enough, I didn't realize until after today's match that a goal I had posted, which made the score 1-0 against Barcelona, was scored by him.

And on one of the biggest stages in youth soccer, against FC Barcelona, their defense simply had no answer for him.

2. Luis Fhelipe | Palmeiras U16

This young man may genuinely be one of the most skilled U16 players in the world. That's no joke.

Like Miguel, I first came across Luis in San Diego, where he scored several highly technical goals and showed off flashy moves, quick dekes, and incredible ball control.

What stood out to me today was an absolutely ridiculous display of skill against a Barcelona center back. The confidence, creativity, and technical ability he plays with at this age are something special.

He's the type of player who makes you stop and watch because you never know what he's going to do next.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I know our articles on prep soccer are usually focused on American prospects, especially when it comes to recruitment and helping players gain exposure.

But every once in a while, you come across talent that deserves recognition regardless of where they come from.

As someone who has spent years scouting and following youth soccer, I felt it was necessary to put my opinion on paper.

I've watched these two develop over the years, and I truly believe we're looking at two future professionals who have the potential to compete at the highest levels of the game.

Remember the names. Miguel Alvez and Luis Fhelipe. These two are up next.
