MLS Next U14: Stromberg on fire as Houston Dynamo beat SGA 5-0

The 2026-2027 MLS Next season is officially underway, and between now and June, the top boys' teams in the country will go against each other week in, week out, fighting for victories on the field. On Sunday, September 27, were attended the U14 match between the [program_tooltip program_id='283657' first='Houston' last='Dynamo'] and [program_tooltip program_id='349106' first='Sonny' last='G Academy'] held at SaberCats Stadium, in Houston. The home team doubled its lead in the 30th minute, when midfielder Ari Stromberg assisted forward Noah Thomas, who fired a left-footed shot into the back of the net.   The hosts kept scoring in the second half and got their third goal in the fifth minute with Stromberg, who picked up the rebound off a cross and scored with his right foot. The midfielder found the back of the net again in the 18th minute, getting to the end of an in-swinging cross and tapping the ball in on the back post. Forward Brydon Singleton sealed the deal by scoring the Dynamo's fifth goal in a play in which the home team hit the crossbar three times before getting it over the line.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players of the Match</h2>    Stromberg carried the Dynamo to victory with two goals and an assist and performed at a very high level during all 80 minutes. Playing as an attacking midfielder, he put his stamp on virtually every offensive play set by the hosts, making a big impact with his quality on the ball. The left-footed Stromberg was always very reliable and efficient on the ball and showed great confidence to attempt passes in the final third. Besides dictating the team's pace with his intelligent distribution, he also appeared in good spots to finish chances and fired some nice shots from outside the box.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/10/2J4A0317.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-412810" /></figure>    Aladejana was part of the Dynamo's backline that earned a clean sheet and neutralized Sonny G's offensive plays. He started the match in central defense and was always well-positioned to defend in space, consistently making good use of his pace to track opponents down and his impeccable timing to tackle them around the box. Aladejana also showed confidence and quality on the ball, quickly moving it from the backline into the attacking half. He was moved to his original left-back spot in the final 20 minutes of the match and made good plays in the attacking half, sending good crosses into the box and firing one of the three shots that hit the crossbar before the Dynamo's fifth goal.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/10/2J4A0290.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-412800" /></figure>    De Angelis was an important part of the Dynamo's offense, using his pace and intelligence to help them stretch the field. He spent time on both flanks and did a good job of getting into nice spots and consistently being an option for his teammates. De Angelis demonstrated great decision-making in the attacking half, consistently making the right choices and facilitating the team's playmaking with his intelligent game. He also impressed with his quality on the ball, beating opponents off the dribble, delivering great passes and attempting shots on goal.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/10/2J4A0237.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-412778" /></figure>    Quinones had a strong performance at the right back spot and offered a lot for the Dynamo on both sides of the ball. He pushed forward very often and, especially in the first half, created good chances with his plays and crosses down the right. Quinones is very quick on the ball, and his ability to push it upfield in no time helped his team produce some direct transition plays that caught Sonny G out of shape. The outside back also got the job done on the defensive side of the game, working hard off the ball and controlling his zone.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/10/2J4A0226_07c7d5.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-412774" /></figure>    Rojo was paired with Stromberg in central midfield, and the two worked very well together. He brought the intensity to their combination, covering a lot of ground on and off the ball and appearing in different areas of the field. Rojo was very good at dribbling the ball forward and took great care of it, rarely losing control of it. The midfielder contributed to the team's offense with his efficient passing and often stepped into the final third, attempting some nice shots from outside the box.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/10/2J4A0310.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-412806" /></figure>    Nieto was Sonny G's only offensive outlet for most of the first half, and he did the best he could to make things happen up top. The center forward was constantly asked to chase long passes and showed good positioning and pace to get a head start over the Dynamo's defenders. Nieto was always outnumbered, but still did a good job of keeping control of the ball and earning corner kicks and fouls around the box. The defender showed good positioning inside the box, getting in the right spots to clear crosses, and also did well in 1v1 duels. Miller was integral to Sonny G's buildup, as every time the team had a goal kick, they would look for him.
