The MVLA soccer club has had its share of top-level teams competing at the top, and the [program_tooltip program_id='278033' first='MVLA' last='ECNL'] GU16 is without a doubt another high-achieving MVLA squad looking to leave a mark on the national stage. While being ranked #3 in the nation out of 130 teams, they are hoping to become the second and possibly a back-to-back MVLA GU16 team to win a natty.

Last season, the 09G-MVLA Gunners won the U16 National Title in Richmond, Virginia. That team was loaded with players I've covered at both the high school and ECNL level. I had a really good feeling about that team, and I'm starting to feel the same with this team as well. In a previous article, I highlighted 2 of the current U16 players, and with this edition, two more will be added. [player_tooltip player_id='409050' first='Marissa' last='Garcia'] and [player_tooltip player_id='381304' first='Milena' last='Makasini'] played an important role in MVLA's dominant performance against a tough Santa Rosa team.

Also, the matchup between [program_tooltip program_id='283467' first='Santa' last='Rosa United'] GU15 and MVLA featured a player on both sides earning recognition as a standout for their teams. Reese Mahoney and [player_tooltip player_id='206689' first='Adelyn' last='Harrington'] led the way for the U15s.

She applied constant pressure up top and was rewarded for scoring MVLA's first goal at the 3rd minute of the match. The ball was recovered at the MVLA 18, and it was advanced into the attacking third. Santa Rosa recovered, and a back pass to the goalkeeper was light, and Milena made a strong run to intercept the ball and pulled it off with sheer speed and determination. She was also impressive in making quick overlapping runs as well as finding open pockets in the defense. Her ability to find teammates in traffic and slip into attacking lanes will definitely get her more goals and assists throughout the season.

She locked down the left side from the touchline to the left corner 18. Jumping into passing and running lanes was where she stood out the most. I really liked how Marissa made clean and precise passes during counterattacks and how she looked really calm and confident in the LB position. During one of her counterattacks, Marissa sliced through the middle of the field and made a near-perfect pass to her teammate, just sending the ball a bit wide of the goal. The quick and calculated runs into space will definitely help her get to the next level. Also, her ability to make clean tackles, anticipate angles of attack, and utilize her size will definitely put her on the must-watch list for 2029 players.

She showed a bit of her speed up top as well as on the left wing. Her technical skills and soft touch found players making runs to the 18. What really stood out to me was her ability to track back on defense and make quality stops. While playing more of a midfielder position in that match, Adelyn showed her box-to-box ability through her level of fitness. I've previously seen Adelyn at a COPA ID event as well as our Prep Soccer Girls ID Camp NorCal: 2026. At each event she seemed to have found a way to stick out, and her play and skill sets definitely showed improvements at each of the outings. The #33 ranked player in CA and the #9 in position is going to be a player scouts will be watching closely.

She played really well. Constantly moving towards the MVLA attack. Some of her strengths were in disrupting runs in the defensive third. Her strengths are in adding constant pressure and forcing opponents to make bad passes. Reese also made some clean passes, and she had a bit of calmness, despite competing against one of the top teams in the region. I really liked her positive attitude and her ability to make 50/50 challenges while using a strong soccer IQ to her advantage. She's a smart player who will be looking for open pockets and players to deliver quick and precise passes.
