ECNL Girls Regional League: Texas Championship – Top Performers

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The post-season has arrived for the hundreds of teams that spent the last months competing in the ECNL Girls Regional League, with only a few in each region still standing in the fight for the title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The competition in Texas is taking place at the Russell Creek Park, in Plano, and Friday was the first day of action for the eight teams in each age division that had the most success during the regular season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Soccer was following the action in the U17 age group, watching the four quarterfinal duels that took place during the day. A physically strong player, she took control of the central area of the field very early on, setting the tone for a strong display against Challenge SC RL G06. Woerner dismantled several attempts from their opponents with her great positioning and well-time tackles and also used her height to make clearances and intercept long passes. She was very active with and without the ball and was heavily involved in the team's offense, finishing chances and creating for her teammates. A very quick player, Shields also does very well in identifying and attacking the space vacated by opposing defenders, be it in possession or with her off-the-ball movement. She was even more very dangerous because of her ability to hurt defenses in a variety of ways, which allowed her to make runs through the flanks in one play and drop deeper to combine with her teammates on the next one. Nelson was very creative and quick to make decisions and find solutions to plays and kept defenders on their toes with her game. Her ball control was excellent and allowed her to quickly combine with her teammates. Hall displayed the ability to finish very well, combining power and precision, but also proved to be a great playmaker, dropping deeper to play a 'false 9' role, dragging defenders with her and creating space for the wingers to explore. Very physical, she put a lot of pressure on attackers on and off the ball, pushing them away from the penalty box. When Renegades attempted to play long to avoid her pressure, Triplett used her positioning and great pace to get first to the ball and dominate the action. She was dangerous both making passes to [player_tooltip player_id='27014' first='Macy' last='Gross'], who was played as a forward to the right, and making runs upfield to get on the ball.
