The state of Texas is always discussed as the hub of athletic talent, and it could be argued that it is true for girls soccer. What can only be considered a tremendous amount of talented players with college level ability and aspirations, we will look at 20 players from Texas over the next several days, starting with these six players.

Bennett Borrego, Defender, Lake Highlands, Class of 2025

Borrego plays for the Dallas Texans 2007 ECNL team, and plays at Lake Highlands High. She is a versatile player, as she can play defensively on the outside, or centrally. What coaches like about Borrego is that she is very coachable and plays very smartly. She shows passion and dedication for the sport, shows aggression and is very tough. Borrego likes to compete, she is a confident, hard-working player who will do what she can to help her team.

[player_tooltip player_id='26513' first='Ava' last='Garvin'], Central Defender, Panther Creeek, Class of 2026

Garvin is from Frisco, TX and plays her club for the FC Dallas U16 ECNL team. A center back from Panther Creek High, Garvin is the type of player that does not get rattled. She's calm under pressure which allows her to be focused and reliable. Coaches love working with her because she is receptive to coaching and wants to improve. She is a good 1v1 defender, she is aggressive and not afraid to make a tackle and overall works very hard as a defender. She also joins in the attack, and is a creative player and delivers a good set piece into the box.

Photo: Meredith Liner

[player_tooltip player_id='93359' first='Camden' last='Henard'], Midfielder, Parish Episcopal, Class of 2026

Henard attends Parish Episcopal School in Dallas, TX where she will be a sophomore and plays her club for the Sting Black 2008 ECNL team. Henard is listed as a midfielder because she can play as a center mid, or play as a holding mid. She is versatile and flexible. Henard comes across as a very committed and dependable player who is dedicated to her craft. She likes to compete and when coaches see her play they see a player who shows resilience, who is aggressive and skilled. She has great vision and makes very good decisions in the midfield and makes them quickly. She knows when to step to the ball, when to stay in front of an attacking player, and she is excellent when it comes to timing her tackles and dispossessing a player, as seen here.

[player_tooltip player_id='87920' first='Avery' last='Mollett'], Keeper, Sunnyvale, Class of 2026

Mollett plays for the same club as Henard, but plays on a different team, featuring for the Sting Royal ECNL 2008 team. She is a keeper from Sunnyvale, TX. She is the kind of keeper that a team wants to have between the posts. She is a very communicative leader. Mollett is very vocal, is proactive and takes control. She is also very brave in terms of coming out on crosses and closing down angles when an attacking player gets in. Her agility makes her a great shot stopper, and she reacts very quickly to shots and balls on, as one can see here. Mollett is a dominant force who coaches love working with.

Calla Reef, Forward/Midfielder, Tomball Memorial, Class of 2027

Reef will be starting at Tomball Memorial High in Houston, TX this Fall and plays up a year for her club, playing for the Challenge Soccer 2008 ECNL team. She is an attacking player who can play up top, or can play in the midfield. Her versatility makes her a very valuable player. She is a dynamic, committed player who works hard and likes to lead. She is motivated to keep improving and shows discipline in her training and when she's in a match. She plays with confidence and demonstrates a lot of resilience.

[player_tooltip player_id='142758' first='Gianna' last='Wilbur'], Central Defender, Walnut Grove, Class of 2025.

Wilbur, who plays for the Sting Black U17 ECNL team, is one of two 2025 graduate of this list of six players. Wilbur attends Walnut Grove High in Prosper, TX and is a strong center back. Strong in her play, and physically strong as well. Wilbur is a fierce defender who can slide tackle with the best of them and positions herself well. She has good speed and can keep up with attacking players, she anticipates their movements well and is not afraid to be physical with them. She is very tactical in where and how she positions herself and this allows her to use her speed to start the counterattack as well.

What can only be considered a tremendous amount of talented players with college level ability and aspirations, we will look at 20 players from Texas over the next several days, starting with these six players.
