Below is a scouting report on the top defenders from the class.
Kloss is a center back on the Broomfield Soccer Club GA 09. She has been part of the Girls Academy Talent ID events in the past. She has the physical profile for a center back at the next level. She is a competitive player who wants to win every duel. The framework is there for a top player in the position. She’s been a bit hesitant to get into the slide tackle in the past, which is one area where she could improve moving forward. Her approach to clearing the ball from danger is a strong point of her game especially when dealing with crosses. Kloss’ potential is easy to see.
Killion is a defender/forward on the Colorado Rapids 08 ECNL team. She can play outside back or as a winger. Killion is an interesting prospect because of that positional versatility. She is a strong 1v1 defender. She is aggressive in the tackle and has good technique in the slide tackle. Killion offers some spark in the attack. She has pace and enthusiasm to create chances out of nothing. Killion’s defensive quality makes her likely a defender for the long-term, but her quality in the attack makes her a top prospect in this class.
Highlights
Anfield is a defender on the Colorado Rush 09 GA team. She has been part of the US Soccer Scouting events in the past. Anfield plays in the center of the Rush defense. She is the lynchpin for the side. She is excellent on the ball. She is comfortable playing out of pressure. She often looks to play through her midfielders. She can go long with the distribution, but she is great at retaining possession for her team and finding the right outlet passes for her side – this is also credit to the midfielders on Rush who work off the ball to set up the triangles. Anfield is a solid defender. She is good when she is on the ball and can line up 1v1. There are times when it feels like she drifts too wide or gets caught a step or two too far up the field. Overall, there is room to improve from the tactical side of things, but her technical foundation especially as a center back in a possession-dominant style makes her a high-upside prospect for the role.
Highlights
Sarnow is a defender on the Real Colorado 09 National ECNL team. She plays right center back for her club team. She has been part of the US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. It’s easy to see her quality on the field. She is a smart player who always seems to be in the right spot. Her defensive qualities are the strong point of her game. She is a good center back in her tactical knowledge. She is also a sound 1v1 defender. In possession, she looks confident on the ball. She can get a bit off balance when she rushes on the ball, which throws off the accuracy of her passes at times. Sarnow is still among the best in her position at a regional level and a major reason for Real Colorado’s success this season.
Raines is a defender on the Real Colorado 09 National ECNL team. She plays the left center back for her club team. Raines is an excellent defender. She is physical, smart about the timing of her tackle, and has the mobility to match up with any attacking player. Raines is a standout from the Real Colorado side. She could improve on her contributions on the ball. She had some nervous moments on the ball recently. If she continues to fine-tune her game, Raines could be one of the top players from this class.
