The Chinese American International School in San Francisco is not exactly what one would call a hotbed of soccer. It is a K-8 school in the City's Sunset District, it is not known for athletics, but it is known for an immersive language experience. Four players, Isabella Ong, Katya Davis, [player_tooltip player_id='54238' first='Ally' last='Hsieh'] and Sonja Anschutz who combined for nearly 90 goals this season, are also all fluent in Mandarin.

These four girls can score goals and speak multiple languages fluently. A well-rounded student-athlete is the entire purpose and these four embody what a student-athlete should be.

Sonja Anschutz, Forward, University, Class of 2025

Anschutz was behind prodigious seniors in Davis and Ong, and did not play as much as she would have on another team. She did score five goals, and shows good technical ability and good ability to find space and use it. She's good with the ball at her feet, and makes very timely runs.

Katya Davis, Forward, University, Class of 2024

Davis is a big forward for the Red Devils, one who is very fluid and controlled in her movements. She is very dangerous on balls in the air, scoring with her head frequently. But she is also very technical on the ball as she can use both feet to get by defenders, to shoot and she's good at finding teammates who make runs off her as well. She had 29 goals and 14 assists this past season.

[player_tooltip player_id='54238' first='Ally' last='Hsieh'], Forward, Branson, Class of 2024

Hsieh is the one girl of the four who did not go from the Chinese International School to University High as she want across the Golden Gate Bridge to attend Branson. Hsieh was a four-year star for the Bulls, a forward with a knack for finding the right spot, a forward that moves well off the ball and one who is very good about holding off defenders despite being smaller in stature. A talented finisher who can use either foot, she had 20 goals and 13 assists this past season.

Isabella Ong, Forward, University, Class of 2024

Ong is a dynamic forward, and it showed as she was the MVP of the Bay Counties League. She had 33 goals and 22 assists on the season. She can play any forward position and do so with effectiveness. She is fast, she is creative and she will go right at defenders. She uses her balance and coordination well to not get knocked off the ball by larger defenders. She is a very dangerous player and a big reason University won the NorCal Division III title.
