Among the outside backs I scouted from this class, Scruggs was the most willing to get forward and get to the end line to hit in a cross. She is a high energy player who will close down space quickly and be physical in the duel. She is also a standout at the high school level for Walnut Grove.

Scruggs will appear with the Dallas Texans 08 team that plays in the ECNL league – they’re set to face Team Boca and West Side Alliance RL. She’s an offensive-minded right back, who constantly offers her teammates a solid passing option on the flank with her runs. Scruggs does a very good job of controlling the ball in tight spaces and she uses that to beat opponents and progress on the field. Because of her pace, she’s also very effective when tracking back to help stop transition plays. The outside back reads the game extremely well and is excellent at identifying situations in which she would step up and put pressure on opponents to slow down transition plays, buying more time for her team’s backline to get organized.

Averi Scruggs Averi Scruggs 5'4" | D/M Prosper Walnut Grove | 2026 State TX plays as a defender for Dallas Texans. Scruggs did well supporting the center back and midfielders from the right back position during this game. She showed she can get out of tight areas and connect passes well. Scruggs was smart in her movement off the ball and was able to break lines going forward. She tracked her mark well and was strong into tackles. Scruggs showcased she is a consistent defender and can create opportunities with her awareness and read of the game.

The starting right back in her Dallas Texans G08 team, Scruggs delivers a lot on both sides of the ball and will be relied upon when they face VDA, Indy Eleven Pro Academy and Ohio Premier. She likes to push forward and is very good at it, widening the field with her runs just by the sidelines, timing well her overlaps and making herself available for combination plays and sending good crosses into the penalty box. Scruggs is also very active defensively, playing aggressively and often looking to make interceptions and anticipate plays.
