Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Playing as a central midfielder, Riley was Magnolia West’s most active player and the vast majority of the team’s offensive plays had her involved. She scored the team’s goal in a beautiful run down the middle, which she finished with a powerful right-footed shot, and she successfully repeated that play on some occasions. Riley moved very smartly off the ball and was very good at dribbling in tight spaces, managing to create chances despite Tomball’s close defending, as she helped set up many of the Mustangs’ transition plays with her smart passing. The junior was also very disciplined defensively and made some tackles and clearances in the defensive half.

Riley can twist and turn a defender with her agility and stop and start ability as she changes direction quickly, but does so in a tight window so that she doesn’t push the ball too far out in front. She can hit a strike from a tough angle as a No. 11, she can cut in and go for the top corner and she is very good about sending balls into the area, either cutting through the defense or crossing from the corner.

Playing as a left winger/midfielder, Riley was very active and got involved in many of Challenge’s offensive attempts. She played very high up on the attacking half, pinning the opposing outside back around the penalty box and helping create space for her teammates to operate. Riley made good decisions with the ball every time she had possession, taking good care of the ball and often finding teammates in good spots. She had some nice runs with the ball in the second half, when Challenge had the space to attack in transition, and almost scored with a beautiful shot from outside the penalty box that hit the crossbar. Riley also had a strong two-way game, dropping back to help her team defend and playing with good energy off the ball.
