Jaelyn Byeman
About Jaelyn
Expert Analysis
Jake Murry | Prep Soccer Scout
Jaelyn has an enate ability to find beautiful passing lanes and if they aren’t there, she creates them. She has stellar footwork and moves in space well. Her defensive aerial game is notable, and she sniffs out counterattacks before they build. Byeman is a bright light on a defensive back line that struggled at times in 2024. The Seattle University commit has an impressive work rate and pushes others around her to be better. The Eastlake Wolves will find their way but will miss Jaelyn’s presence on the pitch immensely.

Center back – either right or left, right footed. Sweet right foot, delivers a good set piece. Byeman is a decorated prospect with youth national team call-ups in the past. Her club side had an up-and-down campaign in the ECNL with a slump at the end of the season that saw them slip out of a Champions League spot. Byeman should still have scouts show up to the postseason games this month. She is a solid defender but her best attributes come in the possession side of the game. She likes to look long in the pass as she can hit a 40-yard ball with accuracy. Defensively, there are times when she grants too much space to forwards. She could rely on her athleticism more to keep close contact with center forwards. Byeman is a big-time prospect from Washington and will be in the spotlight this summer for scouts.

Byeman is one of the top center backs in the country and one of the top prospects from Washington in the class of 2025. She plays as the right center back for her club team. She offers a weapon from that role for a possession-dominant team. She is very comfortable on the ball under pressure. She is confident, calm, and in control. She does well in distribution, as she can pick out a pass to any line – outside back, center midfielder, or forward. Her cross field plays to the opposition winger tend to catch the opposition off guard. Defensively, Byeman is strong in the tackle and does well in anticipating when to step in front of the mark. She is a player to know from the Northwest in this class.
