3A Matchday 5’s Best Performers

Matchday 5 at the 3A level helped to sort the teams who will pose a serious threat for the title from those who aren't. With huge results everywhere, whether it be through the scoreline or the significance, the players truly stepped up. The biggest talents rose to the occasion, making it difficult to just whittle a list down to just a few. However, in my opinion, the standout players for this matchday.    Charlise is allergic to having a bad match, being the most consistent player at this level. Her sort of talent is the type to win games, and she proves it again in this matchday. In this matchday, she took a freer role, floating around the final third. She takes the right-hand side more often, though she feels comfortable dropping back or going more central. In whatever case, she makes sure to make things happen. Whether it be a defence-splitting pass or a dribble clearing her path, she gets the ball in the box constantly. Her pace and her shooting also make her unstoppable for the defence. She feels comfortable shooting on either foot, too, making her hard to predict in crucial positions.     Megan is an immense midfield talent who is an unstoppable force from deep. Her most notable ability is her dribbling, getting past players as if they weren't there. These dribbles aren't just when she's in space. Rather, she dribbles when she's under pressure and releases the ball once she's free. Her insistence to dribble can only be effective thanks to her agility, being able to shift directions smoothly. Though her dribbling is her most impressive quality, her passing doesn't fall short either. Perfectly weighted and sewn through wonderfully, the passes she plays can only be defended by the goalkeeper. Regardless of where she plays the pass from, she creates constant danger.     Mariah is an intelligent and talented left-midfielder/winger who leads her team offensively. Playing out wide, she's very capable of giving her team width and opening up space in the middle. But, she shines the most when she either cuts in when she's on the ball or makes runs into the box. Her movements off the ball are very intelligent, knowing where and when to run to get herself in great goalscoring positions. She often goes unnoticed thanks to how well she makes these movements. This allows her to have more time to make decisions, rarely taking a wrong one. Her first-time control under pressure makes all of this even more effective.     Mackenzie is a great talent who positionally is a striker but functionally is a false 9. Dropping back all the way down to the heart of the pitch, she helps link midfield to attack as well as creating plays herself. Her quick passes are played with the intention to cause as much danger as possible, regardless of where she plays them to. Whenever there are runners overlapping her, she plays precise passes into their paths. If she's the one who needs to do the running in behind, she positions herself to receive the ball easily. When her back is to goal and doesn't pass, she drops her shoulder calmly to be able to exploit the space she creates.     Neiylah is both a right-winger and an attacking midfielder who provides the necessary grit that any attack needs to be successful. Not only does she not shy away from duels, she actively goes looking for them. These duels aren't in safe areas either as they typically are near the box or centrally in the opposing half. When she wins them, she looks to quickly play the pass to someone who can advance the play forward. This allows for her team to be high volume and effective in its high pressing. She also proves to be a great asset on set-pieces, winning aerials with great headers.
