First off, it’s difficult to define the NYC area since it trickles into three states and covers a large population. Secondly, it’s hard to narrow down the field of top players as this All-Metro area covers a very talent-rich part of New York (especially with Long Island) and nearby north New Jersey towns.
But, obstacles aside, here is our look at the best to start the season:
FORWARDS: Albertus Magnus is a rising state title challenger that makes a preseason Top 50 debut this year, thanks in part to a strong underclass led by sophomore Gabrielle Chan Gabrielle Chan M Albertus Magnus (NY) | 2024 NY . The speedy forward netted 18 goals and eight assists last year. She was a first-team LoHud All-Rockland County selection last school year. … DePaul junior Madison Krakower Madison Krakower F DePaul Catholic (NJ) | 2023 State #121 Nation NJ factored in every match last year as DePaul won the North West E championships. The NJ.com third-team all-state pick, Krakower finished with 18 goals and 10 assists in her first year of high school play. … Alexandra Barry Alexandra Barry F Immaculate Heart Academy (NJ) | 2024 State #79 Nation NJ is one of the nation’s top Class of 2024 prospects. The Immaculate Heart Academy sophomore is coming off a season where she earned NJ.com All-Non-Public second-team all-state honors.
MIDFIELDERS: Xaverian junior Riley Mullen earned Class AA first-team all-state honors last year as a sophomore. She was the lone sophomore on the first team. Mullen helped Xaverian repeat as the CHSAA Girls Tier I soccer champions. A top prospect, Mullen plays club for Cedar Stars. … St. Anthony’s senior Olivia Perez Olivia Perez M NY spends time at both midfield and forward. Last fall the Holy Cross commit scored six goals and had four assists to earn Newsday CHSAA first-team honors. … Another St. Anthony’s standout is senior Emily Riggins Emily Riggins M St Anthony’s H.S | 2022 NY . Like Perez, Riggins was a Newsday CHSAA first-team selection after scoring seven goals with seven assists for the undefeated league champs. Riggins earned Class AA second-team all-state honors. … Arlington senior Casey Stowell scored 11 goals and had a pair of assists last year, helping Arlington to an undefeated season.
DEFENDERS: Scotch Plains defender Leah Klurman Leah Klurman M NJ anchored a title-winning team that ended the season with seven straight shutouts. Klurman has committed to Tennessee. She’s one defender who can move around the field, and that led to her scoring seven goals. Klurman delivered the match-winning goal in the regional semifinals and assisted the first goal in the team’s championship game victory. She also earned NJ.com first-team all-state honors. … St. Anthony’s senior Sonoma Adams Sonoma Adams D NY is one of the top defender recruits in New York. She has committed to Dartmouth. … Patchogue-Medford senior Alyssa Abramson Alyssa Abramson D NY might be the most versatile player on this list, at least as it applies to high school soccer. Abramson split time between defender and forward last season and earned All-Newsday Long Island second-team honors.
GOALKEEPER: Ward Melville junior Elyse Munoz was a second-team All-Newsday Long Island selection this past spring. Munoz recorded seven shutouts in her last 10 matches as Ward Melville posted an 11-0-2 season.
