As the regular season concludes this week in Wisconsin, the state’s two powerhouse programs will square off this Saturday in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Marquette currently sits at 16-1-1 and are conference champions for the 11th straight season. Meanwhile, Whitefish Bay is 15-2-2 and co-champions of their conference with Homestead. Marquette is currently ranked 14th in the nation in Prep Soccer’s FAB 50 and third in the Great Lakes Region. Whitefish Bay, meanwhile, is ranked 10th in the Great Lakes region. The programs are ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in the state.
Because the schools are in different classifications this season, they won’t meet in the playoffs. However, the two met in the Division 1 sectional final last fall where Marquette won a 4-3 overtime thriller. Prior to this season, Whitefish Bay returned to Division 2.
On paper, Marquette is the more complete team. Its lone loss came to Fremd (Ill.), which is ranked one spot ahead of the Hilltoppers in the FAB 50. [player_tooltip player_id="32548" first="Nick" last="Magner"], [player_tooltip player_id="18515" first="Valentin" last="Sandoval"], and [player_tooltip player_id="18504" first="Owen" last="Marshall"] have each tallied double-digit goals this season. [player_tooltip player_id="18509" first="Sam" last="Magner"] and keeper [player_tooltip player_id="30972" first="CJ" last="Deslongchamps"] have anchored a strong backline. Marquette has become a consistent national power and reloads every season.
But Whitefish Bay should not be counted out. Its dynamic duo up top, [player_tooltip player_id="32823" first="Ben" last="Grimm"] and [player_tooltip player_id="18490" first="Mitchell" last="Dryden"], have been nothing but terrific. Each has scored at least 20 goals and 14 assists. Nason Lancina has been very solid in net with a GAA of just 0.93.
The game will be played at 1 p.m. at Quad Park, West Saint Paul Ave., Milwaukee Wis. As of now, no live stream is available for the game.
