Today, we check out the leading girls forward candidates for fall-playing states. There will be additional players added to the Watch List in the upcoming weeks. Also, it’s important to note, some players toggle between midfield and forward and might be listed under the midfielders in this go-around. From match observation and coach recommendations, here are some names to know:

Antonson entered the fall season 46 goals shy of tying the state’s all-time scoring mark of 133 held by Callan Harrington, who currently plays for Oregon State. That number might seem daunting, but considering Antonson scored 46 as a sophomore, it is certainly doable. Wilsonville is 12-0-1 entering the stretch run of regular season play.

A scoring sensation since Day 1, Chester finished the 15-game schedule with a staggering 55 goals. The total gave her 201 for her storied career at this small Indiana high school. While the goal total might be inflated given the level of competition, the talent is unquestioned. Chester was even named to the ECNL Under-17 All-America squad this past summer, one of only 15 players to receive such an honor.

Reale can also be found in the midfield for nationally ranked Hingham. She’s the younger sister of UCLA standout Lily Reale, and the two previously played one season of high school soccer together. Now, it’s Sophie’s turn to lead Hingham. Her biggest performances this year were a two-goal, three-assist outing in a win over Hanover and a three-goal outburst in a victory over North Quincy. She scored 20 goals during a shortened 2020 season and appears well on the way to repeating that accomplishment in 2021.
