The Jefferson Cup Girls Showcase took place last weekend in Richmond, VA. Jeff Cup is one of the few events where ECNL and GA squads play against each other, making it that much more interesting from a scouting perspective, and really fun to watch. Hundreds of teams and hundreds of scouts from across the country come to RVA, and I bet most scouts are left wishing they could have attended multiple games at the same time. Let's check out some of the midfielders that stood out!

[player_tooltip player_id='338440' first='Ramsee' last='Jarman'] played in a holding midfield role for her Fairfax Union squad. She has a great work rate, covering a ton of space and getting forward when needed. Her strength and toughness really stand out as she wins tons of duels in the middle of the field. Jarman is also very good carrying the ball forward, using her pace and strength to put pressure on opposing defenses. She is a threat to score from outside of the box and a threat in the air on set pieces, as she showed against RFA, scoring a wonderful header to earn a 2-2 draw on Sunday. To be honest, I did not know much about Ramsee before watching her play, but came away as impressed by her as any other player I watched all weekend.

Alessandra Escobar is a very talented midfielder that has received multiple USYNT Camp invites. Her ability to make the difficult passes in the final third and score goals herself makes her crucial to her team's attack. She changes directions very quickly, making her difficult to win the ball from. Her capacity to hold the ball under pressure and make the right decisions with it makes her important to their build up play. Escobar is also very good at tracking back to win the ball and shows great instincts to double team when the opportunity presents itself. She is not the biggest player on the field, but more than makes up for it with tenacity, balance, and a low center of gravity.

[player_tooltip player_id='275385' first='Scarlett' last='Ambrose'] was also a big part of the Fairfax Union 2-2 comeback on Sunday. She delivered the free kick that Jarman headed in for their first goal, and scored the second herself. Scarlett generated multiple opportunities for her team, showing good link up play with her teammates, and delivering quality set pieces. Ambrose keeps the ball well under pressure in the midfield and shows good vision to find her teammates in space and get the attack going. When given the space, she is also great at picking out passes down the field.

Bella Arrellano is an attacking midfielder for her [program_tooltip program_id='283449' first='Richmond' last='United'] team and Cosby High School. She excels at controlling the ball and dribbling in tight spaces. Her low center of gravity helps her to maintain possession and change directions quickly to beat defenders. Once in the attacking third, she does a good job of picking her head up to pick out teammates. Bella is also tenacious when tracking back defensively, working hard to win the ball back.

[player_tooltip player_id='340523' first='Olivia' last='Davis'] played as a center mid, and as a wingback for her Fairfax Union squad during Jeff Cup. Her strong shooting also suggest she can play as a forward. No matter where she is on the field, Olivia combines very well with teammates. Davis understands the balance of the field. She times her passes well, playing teammates into the right space, and switching the angle of attack when beneficial. Her understanding of the shape of the team also shows in her runs, as she's great at finding space to receive the ball, and rarely caught out of position defensively. When she is out wide, she delivers good crosses at the right time, giving attackers the best chance of receiving the ball.
