Barça Residency Makes a Statement in So Cal

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This weekend, we had a little bit of a change of plans.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Initially, our plan was to film Barça Residency as they took on LAFC Academy, while also splitting some of our coverage with VC Fusion. But from a content perspective, it ultimately made more sense for us to stay focused on Barça throughout the weekend. After covering their matchups against LAFC Academy, we came back on Sunday to film Barça Residency against LASC as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It turned out to be a great decision.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Barça had an extremely successful trip to Southern California to open their MLS NEXT season, and from our side, <strong>KS Sports Network absolutely crushed it with the content performance throughout the weekend.</strong> Between the quality of the games, the individual performances, and the response to our coverage, it ended up being a great weekend all around.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After getting an extended look at this group, there were several players who really caught our attention. But Barça Residency was in town for Week 2 of MLS NEXT, and Marcus made an immediate impression.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He scored several goals throughout the weekend, including one unbelievable individual effort that really showed what makes him special. Freddie is a little taller and fits more of the traditional center-forward archetype.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One thing that immediately stood out was his ability to put himself into dangerous scoring positions. He makes intelligent runs into the box and knows how to find space behind defenders, but he also has the technical ability and finishing quality to create something himself.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the clip attached below, you can see a perfect example against LAFC. The defenders give him slightly too much space, and Freddie takes advantage of it, creating the opening before tucking the ball away with a low-driven finish.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was another impressive individual goal and a great example of why he can be such a dangerous attacking player.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After watching Barça Residency throughout the weekend, I seriously believe this program is due for another deep playoff run this year—and potentially with a handful of different age groups.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There is a lot of talent throughout this organization, and what we saw in So Cal was an impressive way to open the season. The next question is how these teams and players stack up when the competition expands beyond the region.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'm especially looking forward to seeing how Barça Residency performs on the national stage at <strong>MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Flex, and ultimately MLS NEXT Cup.</strong> Those events will give us an even better indication of just how good these groups can be.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For now, they've definitely put themselves on our radar, and <strong>KS Sports Network will be keeping a close eye on Barça Residency throughout the season.</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
