Xavier men land Ohio midfielder

<p>[player_tooltip player_id='55896' first='Nathan' last='Trickett'] became the fifth member of FAB 50 No. 1 St. Ignatius' (Ohio) senior class to verbally commit to an NCAA Division I program when he pledged to Xavier on Sunday.</p>

<p>The midfielder who plays club for FC Evolution did not receive as high accolades as some of his teammates last year but he was instrumental in delivering a state and a national title to the Cleveland powerhouse in 2021. Trickett scored the game-winning goal in St. Ignatius' 1-0 victory over Avon in the state semifinals. Trickett then assisted on the 90th minute, game-winning goal in the Wildcats' 2-1 state final win over Centerville.</p>

<p>In both of those key goals, he coupled with [player_tooltip player_id='14666' first='Nolan' last='Spicer'], a Notre Dame commit. Fellow St. Ignatius seniors [player_tooltip player_id='14738' first='Zsombor' last='Onodi'] and [player_tooltip player_id='14674' first='Patrick' last='McLaughlin'] have committed to Ohio State and [player_tooltip player_id='47390' first='Owen' last='Sullivan'] committed to Penn.</p>

<p>During St. Ignatius' season-opening match Saturday, he scored the second in what ended as a 5-0 victory over Avon Lake.</p>

<p>Trickett is the first reported commit to Xavier for the Class of 2023. Also, half of the reported Class of 2023 verbal commitments in all of Ohio are high school players at St. Ignatius.</p>
