Continue ReadingA week after the Big Ten made a big splash in the recruiting world, it was time for the Texas schools to wake up and shine. TCU made a statement on the field with a season defining thumping of Santa Clara last Thursday and then snowballed that into a week of recruiting wins. The Big 12 program landed four verbal commitments from the class of 2024 in the last week. Texas A&M and Texas Tech also landed top recruits from in-state in the last week.
Emma Yolinsky Emma Yolinsky F Prosper (TX) | 2024 State #7 Nation TX was the highest ranked player to make a verbal commitment in the past week. She made her verbal commitment to Texas A&M. Yolinsky is one of the best creative, attacking players in the club game. She will be an immediate impact player at the college level.
Adeleine Walick Adeleine Walick M Regis Jesuit (CO) | 2024 State #9 Nation CO was the other top 10 talent in the class to make a verbal commitment in the past week. Walick made her verbal commitment to Michigan. She is one of the top midfielders in the club game, and showed her quality this summer while playing in the WPSL.
Beyond the two top talents, there were a number of other verbal commitments from the past week. If you would like to report your commitment, email commit@prepsoccer.com.
Below is a scouting breakdown of some of the commitments from the past week.
TCU was very active in the recruiting game in the past week with four additions for the class of 2024. Patton was the only player from Texas as part of the class so far. She is a top winger from the class. She is dynamic on the ball and a good finisher. TCU has been remarkable in developing players in that role – Camryn Lancaster is the easiest player for player comparison for Patton. Lancaster had 30 points as a freshman for TCU, similar lofty expectations are in place for Patton. Among the other trio of verbal commits, two come from Colorado Rush and both look to be key pieces for the team. Kaela Martinez Kaela Martinez 5’4″ | M University City (CA) | 2024 #113 Nation CA is the one from California. The talented midfielder impressed during the Girls Academy Southwest Talent ID event in May.
Boston University landed a top attacking talent from New Jersey club Match Fit Academy. Osterman impressed me with her skill and determination during the ECNL National Events last season. She is the type of player who does not need much support, she can create on her own through her high work rate. Osterman will be an early fixture for Boston University. The coaches are going to love competitive spirit, which makes it awfully tough to keep her off the field.
After watching North Carolin play Texas over the weekend, it’s pretty obvious where and how Pennie could help improve this squad. UNC is 4-0 on the season, and a pretty clear favorite for another College Cup appearance this season. That said, Pennie’s skill on the ball and passing would help this team unlock the defenses that park numbers behind the ball. She is a top talent in the country, but the UNC roster is always competitive so there is going to be a battle for her to earn early playing time.
Ohio State nabbed a top 2024 from Michigan in Victoria Miller Victoria Miller 5’4″ | F Detroit Country Day (MI) | 2024 MI . She is a winger who is a one-move and go type of player. She is super effective attacker in 1v1 duels. She is great at figuring out the defenders tendencies and then exploiting the weakness as the game wears on. Miller has been one of the top wingers from the Girls Academy, and should be a contributor for Ohio State early on.
Faith George Faith George 5’6″ | F Santa Margarita (CA) | 2024 CA is an exciting addition for the USC program. She is perhaps a player that the new coaching staff views in the same light as former standout Penelope Hocking. She previously played for So Cal Blues, but is now on the Slammers FC HB Koge team. The scouting report on George is FAST, right-footed, can play any of the three spots in the attacking trio, and likes to create off the dribble. George has track speed, which sets her apart from the pack when she is on the club fields because she can just race past defenders with ease. That offers up the potential to use her as a supersub with USC during her first few years at that level. She is an adept finisher and does well to create space from defenders by playing off the shoulder of her marker. As the new coaching staff builds out the future of the program, she is a key piece to show the direction of the team moving ahead.
