Expert Analysis
Jake Murry | Prep Soccer Scout
Alexa has all the tools to play at the next level. Speed, strength, vision and passion are a few of her attributes. She sets the tone early in games and keeps defenses guessing on her next move. Alexa has a powerful right foot and can shoot from any point she chooses on the pitch. She is calm on the ball and adjusts the speed of dribble at will. Her cutback moves are deadly and she can rip a quick shot before a GK can even get set. Newman is a physical presence that invites contact but can use her smooth footwork to avoid it as well. If there is a PK to be had, she’s your girl. Alexa can read keepers well and has ice in her veins at the spot. Last seasons First Team All-State forward is poised to help the Wildcats make a run at a state title in 2024.

Newman is the most advanced player for her Eastside FC G08 team. She knows her way inside the penalty box and is excellent at making plays in tight spaces. The forward is also physical enough to battle defenders for space inside the penalty and doesn’t need a lot of room to finish chances. Newman also has some good quality on the ball and can make plays from deeper positions as well. She’s excellent at finding pockets of space between the lines to get on the ball and from there she can either find good passes to a teammate in a better position or make direct runs through the middle, using her physical tools to shield the ball.

What a player. Center forward. Can leave her on an island and feel confident in her chances 1v4. Skillful, dynamic, strong. Would love to see her getting more challenges against older players. She scores spectacular goals (directly from corner kicks, 30 yard bombs), but she could be a more efficient scorer in the future. Finishing more chances regularly will put her firmly in the discussion as best forward in this class.

Newman had a clutch performance for Eastside FC 08 against Kansas City Athletics 08 on Monday, scoring the first goal and assisting for the second in her team’s 2-0 victory. She’s a very complete player, who knows her way inside the penalty box but can also operate from a deeper position. Newman has some good physical tools to get on the ball outside the penalty box and also has impressive vision to connect with her teammates and a good touch on the ball to make passes.

The forward played a key role in the team’s victory as she scored the first goal and assisted for the second. Newman used her physical tools to get on the ball around the midfield line and had good success making runs toward the penalty box from there. She was very opportunistic and calm to score her goal, getting on the end of a free kick attempt and taking the goalkeeper away with a single touch. She was a problem for Kansas City’s backline during the entire and used her ability in corner kicks to assist for the team’s second goal.
