Sandland is listed as a defender on the Jacksonville roster, but I saw her play center forward in some games last season for her ECNL team. I’m not sure if this is a recent positional change, or has been in the cards for a long time. It’s easy to spot the potential for her as a No. 9. She has a physical frame to hold off defenders. She’s comfortable playing with her back to the goal. She makes good runs off the ball. Sandland could be a bit more selfish as she often looks too willing to get teammates involved rather than try to do it on her own. The finishing instinct can come with time and once she gets that appetite for the goal, she will be unstoppable.
