JR Eskilson | Prep Soccer Scout
Center forward for the Michigan Hawks Magic 09 ECNL. Dual sport athlete. Plays Center/Power forward for her high school varsity basketball team. Cowan is a player with endless potential. The No. 9 position doesn’t have a ton of depth in this class – there’s a lot of quality among the wingers and dynamic support strikes but very few out-and-out back-to-the-goal center forwards – and Cowan has the height, determination, and goal-scoring instincts to be a top player in that role for many years. She showed during the ECNL showcase in Arizona that she can be effective against top defenders. Her runs off the ball, and her willingness to show as an option in possession stood out from the game film. There is some room for improvement in how she shields the ball. She could bring more of those basketball skills to the field. She could be more aggressive in shielding players off the ball to give her more time on the ball. I think she could also develop more advanced moves in spinning off defenders and turning on goal. She also played in the attacking midfield role during the showcase, which shows her playmaking qualities. Again, the potential of Cowan is endless and there is plenty of reason to believe she will continue to elevate her game as she has in the past year.
