Almost exactly a month ago, Willey had a very special moment as the 16-year old debuted for the first team at Sacramento Republic FC, coming on in the 89th minute against Miami FC. Willey plays with a confidence rarely seen in players his age, and despite being smaller, does not back down. He is not easy to knock off the ball as he is strong, and shows great technical skills and the ability to read the game well.

Willey is obviously a top target in this class. He was a standout for the Sacramento Republic team last season at the U15 level in MLS Next. He has transitioned seamlessly to the U17 team during this year’s campaign. His play at that level has earned him an extended look with the youth national teams. Willey is a midfielder (box-to-box) who stands out for his play on the ball. He is smooth on the ball and a clever passer. He is a more creative type than a destroyer. His vision and passing is among the best in this class in the country. He already looks ready for a jump up to a faster speed of play based on how he operates at the U17 level. Willey could be in for a big 2023 as he will have plenty of options available for his future.
