DeWalt led the Columbus Crew’s three-man backline with strong play and excellent leadership. The team captain, he communicated with his teammates very often, making adjustments and making sure everyone was engaged. DeWalt used his positioning and reading of the game to make some big plays as he was often required to cover his teammates. When that happened, he showed good pace to get on the ball and excellent tackling to win it back. The center back was also very involved in the team’s buildup, helping circulate the ball from his central position and occasionally launching long passes.
