Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Schorzman appears in third place among the goalkeepers in Texas and ranks 21st overall. A product of the Houston Dynamo academy, he’s currently with their U19 team, where he continues to develop in the MLS Next League. Called up to the US U16 national team a few months ago, Schorzman has solid technical skills and is very reliable and consistent with his actions between the posts, using his length very well and demonstrating solid reaction speed. He has a very high success rate in 1v1 plays, and when he can’t get off his post to intercept passes behind the backline on time, he does a very good job of taking up space from opponents by fully stretching his arms and using his legs. Schorzman has become more comfortable on the ball, too, and is now more frequently involved in the team’s buildup.

The goalkeeper had a solid shift between the posts and helped the Dynamo limit Dallas’ offense to a single goal. With the opponents having more of the ball, Schorzman was frequently called to action, and he responded well on every single occasion, making solid stops and not giving up rebounds. He was particularly impressive in a pair of 1v1 plays in which he used his long frame very well to take up space from opponents and deflected their shots. Schorzman was always alert, and he was very quick to leave his spot to get passes behind the backline on a few occasions.

Schorzman starts for the Houston Dynamo U16 team and was recently in a U.S. Soccer training camp, where he likely made a very good impression. There is, indeed, a lot to like in his game, as he uses his size very well between the posts and is very technical with his actions, making impressive saves. Schorzman is very agile too, and another of his strengths is facing opponents in 1v1 situations, as he’s very quick to leave the goal and advance to close out the space, limiting their shooting options and putting them under pressure. The goalkeeper is also calm and comfortable on the ball and does a good job of finding teammates with his passing.

Schorzman has emerged as a promising goalkeeper in the Dynamo Academy a few years ago and continues to develop his game. Standing at 6’4″, he’s very comfortable at getting to shots fired in the upper corner, but is also agile enough to get to the ground and deal with low shots very efficiently. The goalkeeper also performs very well when faced with 1v1 situations, as he leaves his spot very quickly, does a good job of stretching his arms to take up space from attackers and can still perform last-second reaction saves. He is also very reliable with his feet, moving the ball intelligently and connecting accurate long passes out of the back.

Schorzman is one of the best goalkeepers in Texas in this class. He has earned his spot as a top player in his age group for his club. Listed at 6’1, I’m fairly sure Schorzman is actually taller than that figure at this point. His lengthy frame lends to a very promising prospect for the position. He’s been given opportunities to play and train with older age groups, which shows how highly regarded he is at his club.
