Ella Ahn
About Ella
Expert Analysis
Roshelle Gobin | Prep Soccer Scout
Taking players head‑on, Ahn battles through the middle of the pitch not with a purely physical approach. By exposing space before pressure arrives. As a result, she often makes her decisions early, reading the moment before the challenge comes. Using her high IQ, she identifies gaps in the opposing shape and turns them into forward advancement for her team. Her movement through the midfield looks natural, and she navigates tight areas with confidence. Getting past an opponent is just as important as winning the ball back. Treating both sides of that battle as equal parts of the game.

Ahn’s intelligent movement off the ball was an important weapon for San Diego Surf as they worked to beat the Texans’ offense in the match. She played on the left side of their attack and did solid work there, facing defenders in 1v1 situations and making some quick combination plays through the middle, connecting one-touch passes and quickly moving to a different spot to get away from defenders. Ahn’s most efficient moves were, however, her runs off the ball from the outside to the center of the field as she managed to get on the ball in great spots on a few occasions thanks to them. She also fired some dangerous shots from outside the penalty box.
