McNeal’s SLSG Navy team couldn’t quite get the results they wanted in Dallas, returning home with two ties and one loss. The team, however, was solid defensively, conceding three times in as many matches, and McNeal played a big role in it. I watched her in their only upset, a 1-0 loss to Sting Royal, but left positively impressed with her performance as the goalkeeper was very efficient with her stops between the posts, using her wingspan to get to the ball. McNeal also displayed great quality with her feet as she not only did solid work with her distribution out of the back but also stepped up to take long free kicks into the opposing penalty box with impressive accuracy.

McNeal is the best goalkeeper I’ve seen in the country in this class so far. It’s early on in the process for 2027s, but there is an obvious reason why she is on the national team. The SLSG Navy 09 ECNL goalkeeper can do it all. She is an excellent shot-stopper, great organizer, and excellent distributor. McNeal plays with a ton of confidence is often pretty far off her line. She backs up her swagger with athleticism as she is quick to react in the transition and makes good decisions on when to step up and when to drop back. She has high-level footwork and acts as a great outlet for her defenders. McNeal is a star at goalkeeper and has all of the tools to be a top player for a long time.

McNeal is one of the top goalkeepers in her class and has been identified by US Soccer scouts as a top prospect on the international level. The SLSG Navy goalkeeper lived up to the hype at this event. She is a special talent in a lot of regards, but one of the elements of her game that really stands out compared to her peers is her confidence with the ball at her feet. There was a moment during an ECNL playoff game this summer when she caught a ball with her hands, scanned the field for options, rolled the ball to her feet. At this point, every player on the opposition is expecting her to go short to the center back who has space. She saw a winger free over 60 yards away. She effortlessly hit the ball to the exact perfect spot. You don’t see that often on the youth fields, especially at the 09 level. McNeal has a long way to go, but she is definitely one to watch on that journey.
