The captain of the Eclipse Select ECNL 06 group had a few standout performances from San Diego. The left-footed outside back offered some quality going forward for her side. Confident on the ball, Simpson did well when she was released and could whip in a cross. She hits a good ball on set pieces – driven with pace – and offers a threat for an assist on any dead ball within 40 yards. She is a strong defender when she gets hands on the attacker and forces them away from goal. There were a couple of times when she overstepped the challenge in the open field and got caught on her heels in the duel. Improving on her approach to those open field confrontations will push her name into the conversation among best outside backs in this class at a regional level.
