If a camp MVP were to be named, I would probably give the title to Gabriella “Gigi” Fitzsimmons. She shined in all aspects and stations. Not only was she a leader in the technical skills department, speed, and overall soccer feedback and applications. Gigi was a leader for the up-and-coming players who never attended a soccer camp. Her ability to help calm the nerves of the newbies is a definite leadership quality, which I hope to see when I go out to see Carondelet compete for another title and make a run in the CCS and NorCal finals.

Fitzsimmons tested in the top 5% of all players at this event and had an excellent 11 v 11 game. She flashed exceptional athleticism and popped up in different positions throughout the game. She did most of her damage on the wing where she got to the byline on numerous occasions and delivered some fantastic balls across goal. Her defensive work rate is elite as she ran down a handful of opposition dribblers creating turnovers for her squad.

She is a player who can create and build up play in the attacking third. Her field awareness and scanning help to find players in open pockets while making quick and precise passes. Her level of fitness and stamina makes her a key part of the central area while providing a push on offense, tracking back to make defensive stops, or compacting the defensive third. Gigi’s ability to use off-the-ball movements creates open pockets and allows runners to get into the 18 to create high-percentage scoring opportunities. I look forward to seeing her play a big part in Carondelet’s upcoming season and run at the playoffs next season, as they look to return a bunch of key players with the intention to go far in the tourney.
