Alvarez is a technical and reliable goalkeeper, who typically gets the job done between the posts with simple and effective actions. He has the reflexes and the athleticism to perform highlight-reel stops (and sometimes does it), but most of his saves are built upon his excellent positioning and superior technical foundations. Alvarez does a very good job of controlling the penalty box in set pieces and when dealing with long-distance crosses, and also has impressive instincts to stop penalty kicks. A lefty, he’s incredibly comfortable on the ball and does excellent work with his distribution, consistently picking the right passing options and playing a big role in the team’s buildup.

Alvarez needed to work to get his clean sheet as Minnesota fired a few dangerous shots on target, which he was ready to stop. The goalkeeper showed great range to catch a low shot from forward Will Smith and made an incredible stop in a finish from very close range by Bryan Espadero Bryan Espadero M MN , which was then called due to an offside. Alvarez also thrived with his positioning, doing a good job when dealing with crosses or when he had to step up and get to long passes inside or outside the penalty box. The goalkeeper was brilliant with his feet too, always picking the right passing options and remaining confident on the ball even when under pressure, finding some passes that helped the Dynamo break Minnesota’s high press.
