About Haley

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Fast, physical, and versatile. At 5'9", I am a tall and physically strong defender/midfielder. I use my speed and size to negate threats from opposing offenses. I am also versatile, having started multiple games at every field position during for one of the more dominant ECNL teams in the 2009 age group. I can score from 40 yards out and shut down offensive players on my defensive half.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I pride myself in being a good teammate, both in my play and my off the field relationships. I do not believe in losing as every moment, good or bad, is a chance to win through learning and development. I am loyal and a dedicated listener to coaches, accepting different assignments from different coaches.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I participate each year in Educators Rising. Through this program, I go into a local elementary school once a week to assist in classroom teaching and preparation. I also get assigned preschool age children to mentor and guide.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been part of the leadership council for my high school soccer team since the start of my sophomore year. My high school coach, Dominic Rutan, has mentored me and shown me how to become a leader on and off the field. I have applied his lessons in my personal life, whether it is through school projects or even running my own small soccer training program for younger players.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

In Spring 2024 during a high school soccer game my freshman year, I suffered a compound break to my right fibula. I was not cleared to play until the middle of September 2024. I trained every day, twice on the weekends, to get back my endurance and strength, often kicked off local fields due to darkness. As I built back the strength, I was proud to start every ECNL and High School game.

What type of college are you looking for?

My goal for college is one that will help me grow as a student and soccer player. I want a coach who pushes me to be the best I can be with a focus on player development. I will put in the work to succeed academically and in the sport.

Wilhelm is a defender on the NVA 09 ECNL team. She is listed as a midfielder on her player profile, but I saw her play as the left center back for her team. She was a standout player for her club team. She was under a lot of pressure in the game as the opposition dictated most of the play, but Wilhelm stood her ground and did not make a mistake. She was exceptional in not allowing the forward to turn on goal and did well in cutting out passes intended to be played over the top of the defense. The center back has good instincts and reads the game well.
