The Duke commit made an awesome run from her half of the field down the wing to get past a player and make a beautiful diagonal pass to the penalty spot. Travers also followed up with scoring goal #2 as she finished a shot in the box from Elle Piper, the recent Duke graduate. Travers has played on youth national teams and it is safe to say that she will get more opportunities as well as looks at the pro trial levels. She is box-to-box player and she has the ability to break through defenses for quality shots on goal or making precise passes in the box.

Travers will be looking to add an ECNL National Championship to her already impressive resume. She was one of 3 players who played every minute for the USA in the U17 World Cup. She is headed to one of the best programs in the country in the fall in Duke University. Can’t give this young prospect enough praise her game has always impressed me.

She had a solid game and demonstrated quick cutting changes in direction. Travers sliced through the defense on one play that started from around Surf’s defensive third, went by a few defenders, and almost fired one off inside their 18. She got the 3rd Surf goal by receiving a pass in the attacking third and made some shifty moves before firing a powerful left-footed shot towards the opposite post. It was a really nice goal. Her play at the left wing was a sight to see, as she didn’t need to use blazing speed to beat her opponents; instead, she chose to use a high soccer IQ and find open spots to deliver precise passes and to get herself and teammates into high-percentage scoring opportunities. The Duke commit will do great at the college level, and we hope and believe she can continue to rise to the senior level.

Surprise, surprise everyone! Can’t say enough about this young prospect. She seems to impress wherever she plays. Unless something unexpected happens, Travers seems to be a lock to make the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic, coming in October, representing the USA. Very good news for other teams in this conference because they won’t have to play against her while she’s there.

Another player from the Best XI of the event, Travers just did everything well in the championship game. She made countless winning plays for her side. The left back is a rare talent. The elite combination of tactical intelligence and technical proficiency make her seem fit to be playing for a top club in Spain in the future, if she wishes. Travers had a play in the second half when she megged an opponent, combined for a quick 1-2 with a teammate, and then dribbled through two more defenders. The playmaking ability from an outside back is something special.

From what I watched this young lady could go compete in the NWSL right now. She is outstanding. Full package. She can come inside inverted to distribute and beat you one on one down the line. She can deliver corners and free kicks on a dime. Her first touch is class and her anticipation of where the opposition is going to play gives her the ability to make a ton of interceptions that turn into quick counter attacks. Very excited to see what this young Duke commit is going to do in the next 3-5 years.
