Her high school team came in 2nd place last season with a record of 4-1-2 and an overall record of 9-3-2. She scored 23 goals during her Junior year of high school. Previous scout Matt Smith said, “Derby shows fantastic instincts, top notch ball skills and clinical finishing ability. She reads play very well, and ends up winning the ball often because she understands how the play is developing on the pitch.” Based on video footage, she can score comfortably with both feet and can go up high for heading in goals. Katie seems to find open pockets and gets into good positions to make high percentage shots on goal. Can’t wait to see the John-Hopkins commit playing in a ECNL or high school tournament sometime soon.

She reads play very well, and ends up winning the ball often because she understands how the play is developing on the pitch. Once on the ball, her subtle shifts and change of directions allow her to get a shoulder past the defender and then she uses good speed to gain an edge and create a scoring opportunity. Once she does, she can use either foot to finish and does so with accuracy and power.
