About Kirby

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am the UNflashy player making the assist, the connecting pass and balancing team shape-I make things happen w/o drawing attention-Fast pace, good vision, correctly weighted passes-Possessing the ball not forcing a showy play-Pinching in, covering, starting a counter attack, breaking lines, watching for a diagonal run, splitting the defense, and charge the opponent’s space-TEAM oriented.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a perfectionist, so if something does not go my way, I think about the mistake, but move on quickly to the next action so I know that I need to do better this next play. On the field I am tough and aggressive, but off the field I am laid back and chill.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Pro-Life Club AD Club (Aldo Domini) HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) FCA House Gratia Spirit Captain

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have learned teamwork through building beds and making bags for the homeless with small groups on retreats-I have learned the importance of generosity doing community service while on those same retreats-I have learned leadership when leading a Pro Life conference for 8th graders-Teamwork and leadership are a big part of working summer camps as well as the work I do throughout the summer.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My biggest challenge was playing for a coach who did not believe in me-He would beat down my confidence and made me not want to play any sport ever-It was very hard the way he treated me-I was always "wrong" and he was not kind about it-Thank God for my family who helped build me up and helped me see my worth. My sisters/parents knew what my goals were. They helped me to seek out what I needed.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that has the same idea for their style of play as I do with a team that becomes my second family. The school needs to be a place where I would enjoy for all four years for school, even if soccer did not work out as planned.

Kirby played left back for SLSG against Alabama FC. She is calm and composed both on the ball and in her positioning and gave SLSG width when playing forward from the back. She played off of Hannis’ cues as they were on the same side of the field quite a bit. When Hannis had possession and looked to get up the field, Scarborough would push higher as well and give Hannis an option high and wide.

Kirby scored her team’s third goal of the game when the opponent’s marking let them down a bit. She took advantage of open space, getting forward and finishing a cross when the ball ran all the way through Alabama FC’s goal mouth.
