Fernald is a defensive midfielder on the VDA 09 ECNL team. She has also played up an age group for an ECNL event this season, which shows how highly regarded she is within her club. She jumped off the screen from game film. She immediately made impactful plays on both sides of the ball. She was physical in the tackle and dictated where the game was played with how she shut down the opposition from breaking through her line. On the ball, she impressed me with her patience and vision. She did not force a pass, but surveyed the field to find the best option. Fernald could improve on using her body in 50/50 situation and she has a tendency to reach for the ball rather than shield off the player. She has good strength and could utilize that more. She has the tools to be a top option as No. 6 in this class.
