About Malia

What's your biggest strength as a player, and how does it show up in games?

My biggest strength is my ability to impact both sides of the game as a naturally left-footed player. I can play LB, LWB or LW, and I like defending 1v1, getting forward into the attack, and creating opportunities with my speed, passing and service.

What are you working to improve right now?

I'm working on becoming faster and stronger, improving my speed of play, and being more consistent with my first touch and decision-making under pressure. I'm always looking for ways to become a more complete player on both sides of the ball.

What are you looking for in a college program?

I'm looking for a highly competitive program where I can challenge myself at the highest level both athletically and academically. I want great coaches and teammates who push each other, a strong team culture, and a school where I can grow as a player, student and person.

Outside of your sport, what should coaches know about you?

I'm a multi-sport athlete and also play flag football for Mater Dei. I love fashion, media and sports broadcasting, and I enjoy trying new things and challenging myself outside of soccer. I'm also very serious about academics and want to compete at a high level in everything I do.

What do you want to study, and what career interests you?

I’m still exploring exactly what I want to study, but I’m very interested in sports broadcasting, media, communications and business. After my professional playing career, I want to work in sports media as an ESPN analyst or correspondent and eventually build and own my own media company.

Either way, she enters the event as the favorite win the starting left back spot with the top team at this group. She’s a highly skillful player who can do it all on the field. She’s been well coached and spent a lot of time on her individual skills. The extra work is clearly paying off as she continues to impress as one of the best talents in the country in the 2012 age group.
