Vanney was excellent playing as a right back for the LA Galaxy. His positional awareness and excellent defensive instincts made of him a very difficult player to beat off the dribble and his tackles were always very precise and efficient. Vanney also gave a lot to his team when in possession, contributing in different ways. At times, he would come inside and join the defensive midfielders, helping the team maintain possession and circulate the ball. On other occasions, he would push forward down the flank and help LA Galaxy stretch the field. Vanney also made some very good late runs into the penalty box to finish chances.

Playing as a right back Vanney, the son of LA Galaxy manager Greg Vanney, looked every part of a coach’s son. Showed a high level of intelligence positioning him self well offensively and defensively. Technically he was tight with the ball comfortable shifting it centrally and recycling possession. Coming forward from his right back spot he fired a ball into the top left corner to give LA Galaxy a commanding 3-1 lead.
