Player Bio
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
Mia plays in the UPSL, ODP, and spent three years in the GA. She is aggressive and vocal GK that is fearless and plays physical. She reads the entire field and communicates with her teammates advising them on their positioning to maximize formations. She pushes the ball down field while being strategic with her ball placement. She’s attended 4 World Cups and models her play to international GKs.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
Mia is strong mentally. She doesn’t take anything for granted and is grateful to be surrounded by a loving and supportive family. She is always smiling and loves looking for the good things in the world. Her mental wellness is important to her as she surrounds herself with positive people. She avoids distractions that detract from being the best GK she can be.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Mia is on the Debate Team and a member of the Women in Leadership Roles in Sports. She is a straight-A student and is dual-enrolled at a local community college taking college level pre-med courses. She is the 2X recipient of the Golden Star Student Award. As a girl scout she conducted community service, including visiting a retirement home and spending time with the elderly residents.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Mia was on the Girls Academy (GA) Advisory Panel as her club's representative. She advocates for her club on areas of safety and anti-bullying in sports. She developed her public speak, how to be a cheerleader, and how to give back to those less fortunate. She is also a member of her high school Student Leadership program. Additionally, she unselfishly cuts and donates her hair to sick children.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Mia sustained a major injury during a game. Diving for a save, she was kicked in the face and had five teeth knocked out. Working with oral surgeons, dentists and orthodontists, she returned to the field within six months - and even more fearless. That experience made her stronger and taught her how to deal with adversity and appreciate little things in life while not taking anything for granted.
What type of college are you looking for?
Mia wants to attend a college that appreciates her skills and leadership. She is a high achieving person, and as a Latina, see herself as a role model underrepresented girls. Mia is looking for a college where the faculty supports the student body and encourages students to think independently. She hopes to attend medical school.
