Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
The center back was one of the best players on his team in the match, leading their defensive system and having an active role on the ball, too. A left-sided center back, Harris was solid defensively, doing a good job of keeping opponents out of the penalty box. He had to defend a lot in transition in the second half, when the Dynamo pushed forward and left their backline exposed, and he was very good, using his mobility to track back and making key interventions. Harris also showed quality on the ball, initiating the team’s buildup in moments in which Orlando were more effective with their press.

The center back was instrumental in the Dynamo’s victory, making a difference for his team on both sides of the game. Harris was very strong defensively, using his physical tools to dominate his zone, showing great efficiency to control opponents with his pace and athleticism, but also defended the penalty box well, leading the backline to a clean sheet. He also played a key role in the team’s buildup, showing calm and quality when on the ball and making some runs on the ball when he had open space in front of him. In the attack, Harris showed good presence inside the penalty box and great quickness to react and score the team’s go-ahead goal with a difficult first-time finish.

Combining excellent physical tools and calm and quality on the ball, Harris is one of the most promising defenders in his age group in the country. An alternate in the US national team that qualified for the U17 World Cup earlier this year, he earned significant playing time with the Dynamo’s II team in the MLS Next Pro League earlier this season, holding his own against older and more experienced competition. Harris’s impressive physical tools allow him to be an extremely dominant center back, who not only outmuscles opponents around the penalty box, but also keeps opposing attackers with his ability to cover ground. A lefty, he improved by leaps and bounds in possession, both when it comes to passing the ball and dribbling it forward, and can also be used an outside back if needed.

didn’t allow Austin any space inside or around the penalty box, making several clearances in the air and blocking passing lanes and shots. He also held his own when he had to defend outside the penalty box, displaying good mobility and instincts. Harris had to clear a mistake from one of his teammates in the second half and made a professional foul, stopping what could have been a great chance for Austin, getting a yellow card for that.

Playing as a left-sided center back, Harris did a good job for most of the match, playing a major role in the Dynamo’s backline. His physical tools are really impressive, as he’s both strong and quick, and he made the most of them to win duels and stop plays through his side. His mobility allowed him to get first to passes sent behind his back and he used his big frame to shield it and keep possession. The left-footed center back also showed good quality on the ball, playing passes through pressure and also hitting long ones with a solid efficiency rate.
