Steil put in an excellent performance for her team and scored a lovely goal that ended up being the game winner. It was a similar goal to York’s but from a little closer as she made a lovely combination coming inside from the right wing and smashed a ball the Real Madrid goalkeeper with her left foot. She is very tidy with the ball at her feet and gave the Madrid backline problems with her press.

Steil is a forward for HTX 10 in the Girls Academy and goes to school at Crossbar Academy in Houston. A high-scoring offensive player, she can score from anywhere in the final third and is extremely dangerous in the attacking half. Steil makes excellent runs on and off the ball from wider areas of the field and has great pace and ball control, being very difficult to stop when she gets going. She’s very direct when on the ball and very rarely makes a move that’s not directed to the goal, not allowing opponents much time to think against her.

Highlights

Steil was really good in this one. She didn’t get on the scoresheet thanks to some heroics from the opposition, but she showed the glimpses that make her a special player. She has the ability to take on multiple defenders at once with consistent success. The close control, strength, and speed are rare for the Girls Academy and set her apart from most of the players at this age group. 

Steil is a winger/forward on the HTX 2010 GA squad. She also plays for the Classics Elite 2010 ECNL team. She’s been part of US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. And she is in the Prep Soccer Texas rankings. Steil is a terrific attacking talent. There is a directness to her approach that is refreshing. She rarely wastes a touch and she plays with the conviction that makes her a difficult player to defend. She can play on the left or right wing. She has the burst to beat the defender with her first touch. She’s also improved on her finishing from distance and is routinely scoring from 30 yards out. Steil continues to be one of the top talents in the GA. 

Steil is one of the top players from the Houston area. She is an attacking talent who can feature as a midfielder or a forward. I think she projects as a No. 10 at the highest level of the game, which is the best spot to utilize her vision, passing, and goal scoring ability. She is right footed and scored a number of goals from distance last season. She has been a top performer at the Girls Academy level and should be competing against older players this season to get a new challenge. Steil has the tools and mindset to be a name to know for a long time in this class.
