Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Johnson took fourth place among the class of 2026 midfielders in Texas and is the 15th-best overall prospect according to our Rankings. She thrives in the private high school athletic system with Parish Episcopal and is a pillar for the Solar SC U19 team in the ECNL league. Johnson anchors her team’s game from central midfield, making a significant impact on both sides of the ball. The midfielder shows great determination when playing defense, cutting passing lanes efficiently and playing with firmness every time she has to make a play for the ball. Johnson is very smooth in possession, using her impressive vision to quickly move the ball on the field, and doesn’t overcomplicate things, typically finding teammates very quickly with her passes.

Johnson’s quality and intelligence on the ball was huge for Solar as they tried to turn possession into chances in the final third. She contributed a lot with her vision, quickly moving the ball from one side of the field to the other and helping generate space for the wider players to explore. Johnson was also very active defensively, reading the game well and reacting to it to make tackles and close passing lanes. She was very quick to identify Albion’s strategy of sending long balls to their forward and managed to get in the way of many of their attempts to regain possession.

Johnson is one of the many talented midfielders to play for Solar SC ECNL 08. Watching her play is very fun because of how simple she makes the game look. Because of her vision and impeccable technique, Johnson doesn’t need more than two touches on the ball to find a teammate in a good spot and get the ball to her. She typically plays a deep-lying playmaker role to get more time and space when on the ball, but she’s also great at moving off the ball to find the space higher up in the field. Johnson also has great defensive capabilities, reading the game well and making smart interceptions.

Johnson and her Solar SC G08 team will face Krakowski’s Eclipse Select, SLSG Navy and Michigan Hawks in Arizona. As a central midfielder, she gets on the ball a lot and often hits great passes. Johnson has excellent vision and that impacts not only how well she’s capable of finding teammates in good spots, but also how intelligently she places herself to get on the ball, be it by relieving her backline of pressure or offering an alternative to offensive players. She’s also very good at reading the game and makes several interceptions by stepping up and cutting passing lanes.

Johnson might get lost in the shuffle on the Solar 08 ECNL team – she is surrounded by players with YNT appearances. However, it’s easy to see why she is always in the lineup. Johnson is as consistent as they come. She does the little things well and seems to take pride in them – her tactical approach combined with her technical foundation is impressive. She is always making the right pass to the right foot to help her teammate get into a better attacking spot or she is timing her support defensively so she can double a winger at the precise moment they turn into her. Johnson’s role on the team is almost irreplaceable for how she glues everything together. Beyond her overall contributions, she is also a standout on set pieces and hits a great dead ball.
