Their season started with two crossover north/south games that resulted in clean sheets over Vienna 3-0 and Great Falls Reston 5-0. They followed that up with two more wins in the south division, a 5-2 win over rival Beach FC and a 2-1 decision over the Richmond Kickers.
A 2021 summer to remember saw them travel to New Jersey where they advanced to the finals of the Eastern Regional Championships of the USYS National Championship Series where they were defeated by PA Dominion FC in a 2-1 heartbreaking loss. The boys followed that up with a trip to Colorado for the US Club Soccer 2021 National Cup XX. Competing in the Super Division, the boys once again advanced to the knock out stage, but lost to STA (NJ) ECNL 2-1 (4-2 pks).
Six 2005 VA Legacy Elite Players to Watch:
D Damian Jackson, Menchville, Class of 2023
Very aggressive, and great in the air winning headers even against bigger/taller players. Will challenge anyone, anywhere on the field and come away with the ball. Likes to get forward and excels at getting around the corner as an outside back. Has the longest throw on on the team and can create opportunities from anywhere in the attacking half with throws into the box.
Best center back on his high school team as a sophomore. Excels in a sweeper roll using his soccer intelligence and athletic ability. His quick feet make him an outstanding 1 v 1 defender and has his coaches trust in keeping the attack in front of him, he just doesn’t get beat and has the knack for cleaning up any trouble in the defensive third of the field.
M Davian Jackson, Menchville, Class of 2023
Very attack minded outside midfielder but also transitions quickly to defense. Great field vision and the ability to cross long diagonal balls, but also has a knack for completing passes into tight spaces and loves to go 1 v 1 no matter who is in front of him. He was second on his high school team in assists. A true two way player who is not afraid to get in hard for tackles.
D Jaylen Marble, Smithfield, Class of 2023
A natural defender who played right back but also filled in at center back when needed throughout the season. Very effective in the air while defending and in the attack. He is a smart player and knows when to transition from defense to offense and make runs forward.
F Luke Skinner, Smithfield, Class of 2023
Led a balanced Smithfield attack with 8 goals for the season. Very effective playing as a single forward which allowed him to show his strength of playing in open space. Has the ability to attack moving forward with solid technical ability or to hold up play and distribute wide. Able to strike the ball with power or finesse depending on the situation.
M Josh Vincent, Smithfield, Class of 2023
A versatile center defensive midfielder, his biggest strength was his instinct to transition from defending to quickly getting into the attack. Led his HS team with six assists as a sophomore. Very capable of providing quality crosses from either side of the field and distributing to attacking players in tight spaces.
