Regional Rankings: Three teams secure final region No. 1 spots
For Bearden (Ind.) girls and Noblesville (Ind.) boys, a season of promise turned into dreams realized Saturday afternoon.
Bearden completed a 23-0-1 season with a 3-1 win over Houston (Tenn.) in the Tennessee Class AAA girls state final. About 90 minutes later and 400 miles to the north, Noblesville put the finishing touches on a 20-1-1 season with a 3-1 state final win over Carmel in the Class 3A boys final.
Both teams started the year ranked No. 1 in their respective state and remained in that position every week, all the way to the end of the season. In addition, both teams began the year in the FAB 50 Top 10, and both will finish there, as well. Only only No. 1 honors both teams grabbed this season that they didn’t hold in the preseason were the regional rankings. Bearden started the season behind Strongsville (Ohio) girls and Noblesville was behind Naperville North (Ill.) boys. With their state title wins this past week, Bearden has secured the Ohio Valley region No. 1 girls ranking for 2021, while Noblesville is assured a No. 1 finish in the Mid-East boys regional rankings.
Also, on Saturday, Homestead (Ind.) girls put the finishing touches on a 22-0 season and a final No. 1 ranking in the Midwest girls region.
Bearden, Homestead and Noblesville are the first teams to lock down region No. 1 final rankings for the 2021 fall season. The 11 other region No. 1 spots remain up for grabs as states dive deeper into postseason this week.
