Regional Rankings: Florida, Calif. regions welcome new No. 1s
Two boys and two girls regions have new No. 1 teams this week as the winter season starts to get into full swing.
Currently, all winter-playing states are in action except for Hawaii and the UIL-sanctioned Texas programs.
The big mover this week was Tampa Prep (Fla.) boys, which won a State No. 1 vs. 2 showdown over Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) to switch spots in the rankings this week. Santiago Castaneda assisted both goals as the youthful Terps won the match 2-0 and took over the state and region No. 1 spots. Jesuit (Calif.) moved to the top of the California-North region rankings following a loss by De La Salle (Calif.) and a draw by Bellarmine Prep (Calif.), which were both ranked ahead of Jesuit last week.
In girls soccer, North Fort Myers (Fla.) jumped from unranked to No. 1 in the Florida-South region rankings after knocking off the former No. 1 Lourdes (Fla.) and regional Top 10 Mariner in the same week. Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) moved to No. 1 in the California-South region.
