Winter FAB 50: Slow moving in this week’s rankings
In this article:
Etiwanda (Calif.) and Riverside King (Calif.) made a splash in the girls rankings this week, but that was about as big of news as it gets.
Most winter-playing high school programs were off during the days leading up to Christmas, thus there was not much significant movement in this week’s FAB 50 rankings. Well, other than for Etiwanda and Riverside King. Both defeated former FAB 50 No. 10 Santa Margarita last week, and Etiwanda dealt King its first defeat this year as both jumped into the national rankings. At 7-0, Etiwanda moved from the regional Top 25 to No. 22 in the FAB 50. King, meanwhile, debuts in the FAB 50 at No. 29, one spot ahead of Santa Margarita.
Looking ahead, this week’s schedule features the Excalibur Tournament in California, which matches up many of the state’s powerhouse programs. In fact, Etiwanda kicks off its Excalibur play with FAB 50 No. 13 San Clemente.
In boys soccer, the 5th Annual SoCal College Showcase kicks off Tuesday at Chapman University with a loaded eight-team field. The showcase match on Day 1 will be No. 15 Servite (Calif.) taking on regionally ranked St. Paul’s (La.). FAB 50-ranked Bellarmine Prep (Calif.) is part of the field, along with former FAB 50-ranked Cathedral (Calif.), De La Salle (Calif.), and Loyola (Calif.). St. Augustine (Calif.) and Orange Lutheran (Calif.) round out the field.
Birmingham (Calif.) remains No. 1 in the boys FAB 50 following a tournament victory last year, while Texas teams that have yet to start the season — Flower Mound (Texas) and Prosper (Texas) — stay 1-2 in the girls FAB 50.
