It was a competitive match with Villa Rica coming out on top, winning 2-1 with a goal in the 73rd minute only minutes after an Alexander red card.
D Nyckolas Waits, Alexander
Highlighted in the season preview for the West Georgia area, Nyckolas showed his class from the beginning of the match. Although only a freshman, he was the dominant presence on the field throughout the match. He was strong defensively with no missed tackles throughout the match. He allowed most of the match to be easy for the Alexander team by cutting out most Villa Rica’s attacking. On set plays, he was always a threat to score a goal, wreaking havoc in the opposition box. He will be one to continue to follow in his career.
D Peniel Derisse, Villa Rica
Playing center back for the entirety of the match, he showed his strength in defending, especially during the first half, when Villa Rica was under constant pressure from the Alexander attack. He won many aerial balls and tackles, preventing Alexander from creating too much on goal despite their high share of possession. Whenever he won the ball, he was able to provide his midfielders with quick supply, allowing his team to counterattack throughout the match.
M Luke Rafiq, Villa Rica
Luke was a top performer on the night from his deeper, defensive position in the heart of their midfield. Throughout the match, he was able to link the defense to the attack as well as switch play from one side to the other quickly, which allowed his team to create their chances because Alexander dominated possession for most of the match. He was also able to break up the opposition attack many times, especially once they took the lead late in the match.
M Kenneth Thompson Kenneth Thompson M GA , Villa Rica
The engine of the midfield for Villa Rica, he started up front, but was moved into midfield throughout the match, showing his great versatility. He is a very quick and agile player that covers a great deal of ground throughout a match. He was the player that carried the ball deep into the opponent’s defense throughout the match. He setup 3-4 gilt-edge opportunities for Villa Rica showing his ability going forward. Defensively, he pressed from the front when he could, but stayed linked with the rest of his team.
M Roman Land, Alexander
Roman, a freshman, provided a spark to the Alexander team when he entered the fray. His constant work in the midfield after an injury to an Alexander midfielder, kept the temp high so his team didn’t miss a beat in the first half, especially. His short-range passing kept the Alexander squad combining deep into Villa Rica’s territory from time to time.
F Jacob Grimmer, Alexander
He started on the wing for the team before being moved into the center of midfield to strengthen the middle of the park. Throughout the match, his positive running with the ball allowed Alexander to create overloads down the edge of the penalty area. Although many of his shots were blocked successfully, he was a constant threat to create a goal.
