Four West Georgia high school players who were featured in a recent season preview were invited to gain the experience of a professional setting and environment as the match took place at Atlanta United’s Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground on Jan. 25th.
Atlanta United won the match 2-0, but the biggest headline was Isaac Cruz of Carrollton High School (Ga.) played the final few minutes against the professionals. In his few minutes on the field, he was able to see the vast increase in the speed of play as well as the true athleticism of the MLS players. In addition to Cruz, he was joined by Wyatt Mathis-Kline, Jon Smith, and Nyckolas Waits.
Waits is a freshman, and Cruz, Mathis-Kline, and Smith all are in their sophomore seasons for their high schools.
