Regional Rankings: Louisiana champs secure lofty region rankings

Louisiana crowned state champions over the weekend and now Arizona, Florida, and Hawaii are all just days away from doing the same. By this coming Sunday, only California and Texas still will be playing winter soccer. In Louisiana, Baton Rouge Catholic (La.) boys rolled to a second straight state title, and the team currently sits at No. 2 in the Southeast region, ranked behind Jackson Academy (Miss.), which handed BR Catholic its only loss this season. Dominican (La.) girls completed a 28-1-1 season with a state title and will finish No. 3 in the Southeast behind Northwest Rankin (Miss.) and Gulfport (Miss.). Northwest Rankin won the Mississippi 6A crown, beating Gulfport along the way. Gulfport handed Dominican a one-sided loss during the regular season. The postseason has cleared out all of the FAB 50 No. 1 hopefuls from Arizona and Florida, except for boys power Tampa Prep (Fla.). Tampa Prep, currently No. 2 in the boys FAB 50, is aiming for a seventh state title -- all since 2005 -- when it faces Ransom Everglades in the 3A final this week. A win by Tampa Prep not only puts this program in a tie for the second-most state titles in Florida history but also will keep the team in the hunt for Florida's first FAB 50 No. 1 finish since 2018. Speaking of Florida, for the second straight week, Florida ushered in new No. 1 teams in girls soccer with Creekside inheriting the top spot in the North and Mariner winning its way to the top of the South region rankings.
