Regional Rankings: Tampa Prep, Creekside finish No. 1 in Florida

Tampa Prep (Fla.) boys and Creekside (Fla.) girls secured state No. 1 rankings for the 2021-2022 winter season with state titles over the weekend. In addition, Jackson Academy (Miss.) boys, Cypress Bay (Fla.) boys, Desert Vista (Ariz.) boys, Mariner (Fla.) girls, and Kamehameha (Hawaii) girls all captured state titles in the past week to secure region No. 1 rankings. All that remains for the winter season is this week's California NorCal and SoCal region championships and the final six weeks of Texas play. A shootout loss by former Texas-North boys No. 1 El Paso Eastlake (Texas) allows Grapevine to take over the No. 1 spot in the region and opens the door for a new FAB 50 No. 1 boys team on Tuesday. Tampa Prep, previously No. 2, figures to inherit the top spot following its 2-0 state final win over Ransom Everglades. Unlike most states where the strongest teams tend to be gathered in one classification, Florida's best are spread pretty evenly throughout its six classifications. Tampa Prep won the Class 3A title and finished 21-0, which included multi-goal, shutout wins over state semifinalists in Classes 6A and 5A. The Terrapins were last a national ranked-typed program in 2013 after posting back-to-back state titles. Considering Tampa Prep's top offensive players this year are underclassmen, expectations will be lofty for the Terrapins next year. Here are the current region No. 1s ...
